1. Start looking for a suitable course and institution.

Postgraduate Scholarship applicants MUST apply to UK institution(s) of their choice before applying for the Chevening Scholarships. Evidence of application to a maximum of three UK institutions, or correspondence to this effect, must be submitted at the time of scholarship application. The scholarship offer will be subject to obtaining a confirmed offer of admission from one of the three chosen UK institutions by end of May each year. Candidates who have deferred admissions may attach copies of such offer letters.

Shorter Specialist Scholarship - three-month intensive taught course at University of Sheffield applicants DO NOT need to apply to the UK institution(s) directly.

2. Fill in the application form.

You must complete all the sections on the eChevening application form. INCOMPLETE APPLICATION FORMS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. The eChevening application is available here.

The applications process for the 2013/14 Chevening Scholarships scheme is scheduled to begin in November 2012. Prospective applicants should regularly check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website or the Official Chevening Facebook page for the latest news.

3. Start preparing for the IELTS test. Make sure you are able to submit the test result together with other supporting documents immediately after you submit the eChevening scholarship application.

4. Please send the supporting documents with your eChevening application reference number immediately after you submit your eChevening application. Only applications with the following supporting documents will be considered.

  1. A covering letter with your eChevening reference number and list of submitted supporting documents
  2. A copy of your Hong Kong or Macao permanent residence identity card
  3. A copy of your IELTS certificate
  4. Two SEALED reference letters (at least one academic)
  5. A copy of your academic transcripts and/or certificates, from your HKALE or equivalent results to tertiary qualifications, with accompanying certified translation into English if necessary
  6. A letter of acceptance from a UK institution or application acknowledgement. (E-mail or letter acknowledgements will also be accepted.)
