1. Start looking for a suitable course and institution.

You are welcome to visit the Customer Service Centre on the third floor of the British Council building (tel 2913 5100). There are extensive reference materials including prospectus, application forms, general education reference guides, videos, free internet and CD-ROM access.

Postgraduate Scholarship applicants MUST apply to UK institution(s) of their choice before applying for the Chevening Scholarships.  An evidence of application to a maximum of 3 UK institutions or some correspondences to this effect must be attached at the time of scholarship application by 30 January 2009.  The scholarship offer will be subject to obtaining a confirmed offer of admission from one of the three chosen UK institutions by no later than 1 May 2009. Candidates who have deferred admissions may attach copies of such offer letters.

Shorter Specialist Scholarship - three-month intensive taught course at University of Sheffield applicants DO NOT need to apply to the UK institution(s) directly.

2. Fill in the application form.

You must complete all the sections on the application form. INCOMPLETE APPLICATION FORMS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. The application form can be or downloaded from here:

3. Start preparing for the IELTS test, make sure you are able to submit the test result together with the scholarship application.

4. Before sending in your application, make sure you have all the necessary supporting documents. Only applications with the following supporting documents will be considered.

  • a completed application form
  • a copy of IELTS certificate
  • two sealed reference letters
  • A4 photocopies of academic transcripts or certificates from your HKALE result to tertiary qualifications with accompanying translation into English if necessary
  • a letter of acceptance from a UK institution. (Email or letter acknowledgements or photocopy of university application form will also be accepted.)
  • THREE one-sided A4 photocopies of your completed Chevening application form with supporting documents.
