Successful candidates will be invited to attend a thorough pre-departure briefing. This will cover practical issues including immigration and customs procedures, flights and accommodation. It is also an opportunity to meet with your fellow Chevening scholars. The Assistant Manager, Scholarships and Educational Exchanges will be your main point of contact.
In addition to the pre-departure briefing, you will be invited to informal meetings with past scholars and to an individual meeting with the Assistant Manager, Scholarships and Educational Exchanges. He will advise you the value of your scholarship and allowances to which you are entitled to, and discuss any issues concerning your scholarship or life overseas.
On Returning Home
On your return you will be invited to a variety of events including the annual British Chevening Scholars Welcome Home Reception, functions organised by the British Consulate-General and seminars related to your professional field. This year's events include a cocktail reception reunion hosted by the British Consul-General for all scholars, sponsors and members of the Board of Advisers.
Other proposed events will include short excursions, visits to companies and organisations, charity events and informal gatherings.
You will also be invited to join the British Chevening Scholars Association run by former scholars. Naturally all scholars can suggest events which they wish to organise or are interested in attending.
