Baroness Scotland & Chevening Scholars

On 9 December 2004, we hosted a discussion between Baroness Scotland, the current Home Office Minister of State for the Criminal Justice System and Law Reform in the UK Government, and some of our returned Chevening law scholars.

The high calibre representatives from the Chevening scheme who joined the discussion that night were Anson Wong, Barrister of Bank of East Asia, Charlotte Tse, Solicitor of Sidley Austin Brown & Wood, Jimmy Kwong, Trainee Solicitor of Allen & Overy and Money Lo, Barrister-At-Law.

There was a heated discussion on the new criminal justice law system in the UK which was enjoyed by both advocates and the defendant!  The scholars seized the opportunity to ask Baroness Scotland a whole range of questions on proposed changes to the criminal justice system.  Baroness Scotland spoke eloquently of the need to have laws which equally protect the rights of the victim and the defendant.  At the moment the victim has few rights.

Everyone agreed it was an evening well-spent.
