On 21 August 2004, the Welcoming and Reunion Party of the British Chevening scheme was held to bid farewell to the 2004-2005 scholars. It was a delightful evening bringing together Chevening returned scholars from all over the region including Korea and Singapore.
As the party started, the restaurant soon became packed with over 70 familiar faces greeting each other and exchanging news. Mr Brian Simpson, Vice-Consul (Political/Economics) of the British Consulate-General; Ms Ruth Gee, Director of British Council Hong Kong, Mr David Foster, Assistant Director (Arts & Science) and Dr. Stuart Martin, Professor of University of Cambridge attended as special guests.
The newly elected committee of the British Chevening Scholars Association introduced a buddy scheme to the guests. The buddy scheme is actually a programme that matches a returned scholar with a new scholar, with the aim of providing support and maintaining long-term friendship across the seas
Laughter soon filled the room when everyone was helping themselves to the buffet dinner. The event was a huge and enjoyable success. With the enthusiastic support of the scholars, we very much look forward to another party soon.
