Post event information - February 2006

Mr Malcolm Wharton, Principal and Chief Executive of Hartpury College, was invited by BCHK to conduct a feasibility study to identify areas and future activities the British Council could contribute to in order to complement the Olympic Equestrian Games 2008 being held in Hong Kong.

During Malcolm's visit from 16 to 20 January, he had meetings with Mr Paul Cheung, Principal Assistant Secretary and Miss Louisa Yan, Assistant Secretary, Home Affairs Bureau; Mr Edwin McAuley, Vice-President of Hong Kong Equestrian Federation; Mr Stuart Mitchell, Equestrian Manager of Hong Kong Jockey Club; and Mr Nick Rodgers, Project Manager of Riding for the Disabled Association Ltd.  The meetings proved to be very successful with valuable ideas and professional information being shared by all parties.

He was interviewed twice on RTHK on the Morning Brew and Hong Kong Today programmes.

Malcolm also attended a discussion session with a group of Hong Kong University students from the Building Services and Architectural Engineering Departments who are working on a project of developing an equestrian centre in Hong Kong.

Malcolm and key contacts feel that raising general public awareness and interest in the sport is a potential project topic.
