- The study of popular culture personalities could be utilised, especially within subjects such as Media and Social Studies.
- Regardless of the standpoint taken, students should be led to discover the people that they consider important within their own community. Once such individuals are identified, students should examine why and how they connect with these individuals. To achieve this end, students should be given the opportunity to interview identified important personalities with the local community.
Starting point for the research into this theme could result from in-depth classroom discussion. The perspective of each student must be taken into account in order for all peoples to be given equal representation.
- Students should be given the opportunity to speak with people representative of their community’s population.
- The local labour force could be investigated so that students could develop a way to celebrate the previously unknown people within their community.
The second phase of the project should enable all peoples within a given community to celebrate their individuality and realise the important part they play in the community.
- A dedication or award ceremony could be an interesting way to recognise leading members of a community. Providing a stage for previously unheard or overlooked individuals/groups could provide interesting results.
- A celebration of certain jobs/vocations should be celebrated, as students should highlight the key roles that individuals play in their community.
