In 2010, the British Council is supporting Swanning Around which is jointly presented by the English National Ballet, Royal Albert Hall and Webplay. Swanning Around is an education, dance and cultural exchange project that will be creating a new dance inspired by Swan Lake. The English National Ballet has joined forces with the Royal Albert Hall to give over 100 young people aged 14-19 from 13 secondary schools and institutions across the UK, Hong Kong and China the experience of a lifetime and the chance to work with professional dance artists.
Swanning Around has been performed in the Royal Albert Hall on 14 June 2010. It is only the first of the two highlights of the Swanning Around project. In September, a group of young British students will fly across the world to join their Chinese counterparts and perform at the Shanghai Expo on 8 September 2010 the UK National Day. 130 dancers from Shanghai, Suzhou, Beijing and Hong Kong will gather in Shanghai. They will be joined by 10 students from the UK and together they will bring an engaging cross-cultural performance to the Chinese audience.
