Contemporary Art from the British Council Collection 1980 – 2010

Co-organised by the British Council and the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, the third leg of the touring exhibition “Made in Britain: Contemporary Art from the British Council Collection 1980 – 2010”. This exhibition has been specially selected from the British Council Collection, one of the most comprehensive holdings of modern and contemporary British art in the world, containing some 8500 art works by over 1650 British artists.

The exhibition showcases works by 37 groups of British artists mainly produced in the period between 1990 and 2010. Centre Stage is taken by the controversial “Young British Artists” (YBAs) group that includes Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas, Gillian Wearing and Mark Wallinger. Noted for their shock tactics, the core of these emerging YBAs many of them art school graduates, benefited from intense media coverage and marketing hype and quickly rose to stardom, achieving celebrity status and exerting an influence on British art that will be felt for decades to come. Also featuring the works by Turner Prize winners such as Richard Wright and Wolfgang Tillmans as well as several nominees, the shows that has been created encompasses and enormous diversity of styles and conceptions.

Moreover, an Opening Ceremony and a series of comprehensive programmes and events will run throughout the exhibition period.
