Science Alive is jointly organised by the British Council, the Education Bureau (EDB), the Hong Kong Education City Limited and the Hong Kong Science Museum, sponsored by The Croucher Foundation.
In 1962, Britain became the third space-faring nation with the launch of Ariel-1, the first satellite to be developed and operated by the UK. Fifty years on, the UK space sector is a world leader in space science and innovative technology.
2012 also marks the centenary of the birth of the "father of computer science", Alan Turing. We will be celebrating his work in artificial intelligence and computer science.
In July 2012, the world came together to celebrate the potential and uncover the outer limits of the human body in the London Olympic Games - the third time that the Olympics has been held there.
As always, we would like to thank our partners and sponsors for their continued support and the many teacher, student and parent participants who help make science "alive".
For e-services teachers, please register online (in early October) through the Training Calendar (Course ID: CGCDI020121471) on the Education Bureau website.
Science Alive 2012 programme includes:
• Science Interactive Lectures • Teacher & Student Workshops • School Tour Shows • Debate • Interactive Sports Exhibition • Science Walkabout Show • Science Drama Show • Sports Science Show • FameLab – Science Communication Competition (Hong Kong Finals will take place in March 2013)

Café Scientifique – Science Alive series
Thanks to Science Alive, November will see not one, nor two, but three fascinating Café Scientifique sessions! Join us for three events with specialist speakers from the fields of space, satellites and artificial intelligence. Brendan Mullan will scientifically deconstruct the myth of the 2012 apocalypse. Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock MBE will explore the use of satellites in our everyday lives. And, Professor Sethu Vijayakumar will discuss the challenges of having robots perform tasks for humans. Science Alive is generously sponsored by the Croucher Foundation.
We hope that these activities will bring you fresh ideas and inspiration about different aspects of science while demonstrating that learning and teaching such subjects can be creative and fun!
The programme is free of charge.
