Introduction

15 - 26 November 2008

Science Alive is jointly organised by the British Council, the Education Bureau (EDB) and the Hong Kong Science Museum, and sponsored by The Croucher Foundation.

Every year, Science Alive invites leading UK academics and communicators in the field of science to present lectures and workshops to students and teachers in Hong Kong. The programme, which receives a huge level of support from schools throughout Hong Kong, delivers lively and provocative events which promote a wider understanding of different aspects of science.

This year, Science Alive celebrates the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth and explores his work and legacy. Our programme will enable students and teachers in Hong Kong to examine fundamental questions in science. It will look at the origin, nature and distribution of life as well as the impact of human society and scientific advancement on evolution into the 21st century.

There will be teacher workshops, science walkabout shows, student workshops as well as a Darwin Now exhibition and various science lectures.

Schools are welcome to join the programme free of charge.

For e-services teachers, please register online through the Training Calendar on the Education Bureau website.

We hope that these activities will bring you fresh ideas and inspiration about different aspects of science while demonstrating that learning and teaching such subjects can be creative and fun!
