This programme aims to increase understanding of the climate change issue and to encourage positive actions by engaging school students aged 12 to 22. Workshops and training activities are delivered to help YAs gain better understanding about climate change, low carbon alternatives and improve their communication skills.
The first phase of this programme is the “Climate Cool Camp” where over 200 youth will be invited to attend a one-week training camp to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to become effective climate change leaders in their schools and/or communities. It is anticipated that 20 secondary students from Hong Kong will be amongst the over 200 youth. Participation in the camp is only extended to schools that have previously registered as Climate Cool schools or have participated in the Education Bureau's Green School Awards programme.
The second phase of the programme will be the “Green Journey” which will take place in either July or August 2010. The Green Journey is a two-week train journey to Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou and Hong Kong visiting organisations, institutions and projects which are all committed to working for the environmental benefit of the world we live in. Participants are selected from the Climate Cool Camp.
The third and final phase of the programme, which will take place in early 2010, will be the identification of two outstanding youth representatives who will be sent to attend and training programme in the UK and will participate in one or more international activities focused on climate change. The two representatives will be selected from the pool of candidates from the previous two phases.
