The British Council appreciates the importance of changes in the UK constitution and will reflect them in our work around the world. We will continue to promote the whole of the UK, supporting foreign policy objectives of the UK government and those of the British Council's principal sponsor, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. At the same time the British Council will also continue to reflect the diversity of the United Kingdom by working closely with the devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and by drawing on the expertise and experience of people throughout the United Kingdom.
Indisputably, because of the United Kingdom’s history in Hong Kong, the influence of the United Kingdom’s law and legislation has taken root in the policy-making system locally. Both governed by common laws, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong share many similarities in their approach to law and legislation. By engaging UK decision-makers and legislators in international idea exchanging activities such as law conferences, seminars and law educational programmes, we continue to have an impact in Hong Kong by providing practical ideas and solutions to the development of law and society in Hong Kong.
