The British Council supports the European Film Festival 2011 by presenting the opening film Another Year, directed by Academy Award nominee and two-time Cannes Film Festival award-winning UK director, Mike Leigh. It is the story of a married couple who have managed to remain blissfully happy into their autumn years and who, over the course of the four seasons of one average year, are surrounded by friends, colleagues and family who all seem to suffer some degree of unhappiness. This film was nominated for four awards at the British Independent Film Awards and won the Best Actress Award at the USA’s National Board of Review.
The Film Festival is presented by the Office of the European Commission in Hong Kong and Macao and in association with Broadway Cinematheque.
