Steve McAdam BSc (Hons) AA Dipl RIBA ARB, Director, Fluid

Steve McAdam is a founder and director of fluid, a multidisciplinary practice with an interest in architecture and urbanism.  He is an architect with extensive experience in urban regeneration, masterplanning and participatory design and has led major urban regeneration projects in both the public and private sectors in London, Derby and Merseyside.  He was appointed to the London Olympic masterplanning team by the London Development Agency in August, 2003, to direct all aspects of stakeholder consultation, public sector engagement and responsive masterplanning.  Fluid played a similar role for the Kings Cross Central project for developer Argent plc, for which they received an award for innovation from the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE).

David Barrie Executive Producer, Channel 4 Television UK and Member, Castleford Project Steering Group

David is a Producer of urban projects and television documentaries for international audiences.  Since 2002, he has created and led a process which has enabled the community-driven regeneration of the former coal-ming town of Castleford, Yorkshire.  The project was co-founded by Channel 4 Television and is being documented for a series of landmark TV programs.  The project is now on site with work commissioned from leading architects, landscape designers and visual artists from around the world.  Starting with a grant of HK$1.4m from Channel 4, the project has leveraged £180m (HK$ 2.5bn) of additional new investment in to the town and engaged thousands of local people in the renewal of their community.

Ou Ning Founder of U-thèque Organization, Sonic China Productions and Alternative Archive

A multimedia artist by training, Ou Ning has curated and participated in an extensive list of visual arts and film projects throughout the world.  He is currently leading in a research project that explores the soon-to-be-regenerated area of Da Zha Lan, one of the oldest districts near Tian’anmen Square in Beijing, to document what they see now and what they want the area to become after the regeneration for Olympics 2008.

Dr Desmond Hui Director, Centre for Cultural Policy Research, The University of Hong Kong

Also an Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture, the University of Hong Kong, Dr Hui serves as advisor to several cultural, educational and government organisations.  His research interest ranges from architecture, culture and heritage to the creative industries.  Dr Hui will be drawing examples from regeneration projects that he is familiar with including his recent involvement as member of the planning committee for the Shek Kip Mei Creative Art Centre project.

Mathias Woo Theatre Director

Mathias studied architecture in HK and London.  He joined Zuni Icosahedron in 1989 and has produced and directed a prolific number of theatre works.  Mathias writes regularly for newspapers and magazines on arts, architecture, media and politics.  His recent productions include an architectural publication entitled HK Style and theatre production of Corbu, a multimedia interpretation of 20th century architect Le Corbuiser’s theories, works and visions.

Freeman Lau Chairman, Hong Kong Design Centre Board of Directors

Winner of over 200 local and international design competitions, Freeman is the partner of Kan & Lau Consultants.  Lau has been a committee member of Hong Kong Designers Association since 1989 and he is now the Chairman on the Board of Directors of Hong Kong Design Centre, and the Secretary General of the Hong Kong Federation of Design Associations.  In addtion to commercial design, he has profound interest in fine arts and public arts.
