How do I go about applying for an examination?
Candidates need to complete a registration form, which can then be submitted either by post or in person.
When are examinations held?

Different exams are held at different times during the year.  Some, such as the Young Learner exams, are held regularly, whilst the Main Suite exams are held twice a year.

What is the address of the British Council?
The address is 3 Supreme Court Road, Admiralty, Hong Kong. Sometimes examinations will be held at an off-site venue. If this is the case for your exam, the necessary information will be in your confirmation letter.
When will I receive my confirmation letter?
You'll receive your letter one week before the examination.  If you have not received your confirmation letter three working days before the examination, you should contact us by telephone on 2913 5170.
Can I change my test date after registration?

For most examinations, a change of test date is only permitted on medical grounds.  For details, please refer to the registration form for the examination you are registering for.

What should I do if I am sick on the test date?
Candidates can request a change of test date if they have medical proof stating that they were sick on the examination day.  Such requests must be made in writing within three working days of the test date.  Please note a change of date will incur an administration fee.  For more details, please contact Examinations Services.

Which BULATS test should I take if I want to claim reimbursement from the Continuing Education Fund?
It depends on the course you would like to claim for.  If the course is organised by the British Council, candidates can take any one of the BULATS tests.  For other courses, you can find further details on the Continuing Education Fund website.  
When will the results be available?

YLE – certificates are issued one month after the examination and are sent by local courier.

Main Suite – the Statement of Results is issued around two months after the examination and is sent by post.  Passing candidates are awarded a certificate around three months after the examination, which is sent by local courier.  

BULATS – test results are issued seven working days after the test and are sent by post.

IELTS – test results are issued 13 days after the test and are sent by post.

What should I do if I need some assistance during the test?
Our centre makes every effort to cater for the special needs of any disabled candidates, to enable them to best understand questions and tasks and give their answers.  Candidates who require special arrangements are asked to inform the test centre before they pay their test fees. Relevant supporting materials (medical certificates) should be submitted during registration.
