FAQ English Language Courses
Your top 10 questions answered
How can I get a certificate/report?

You will receive a report at the end of each 48-hour period of study* of the same course if you have attended at least 75% of the lessons. The report will show a grade for each skill, relevant to that course, individual learning advice and your recommended next course.
Adult students who complete a whole course (and meet the minimum attendance 75% and assessment requirements) receive a British Council certificate.

*Except for General English Level 1 and IELTS Preparation course (Higher level) where you will a receive report after 24 hours of study.

What can I do if I find my course too easy/difficult?

If you feel that the level of your class is not right for you, please discuss this with your teacher or come to our Customer Services Centre and talk to one of our Customer Services staff. We recommand that in the first place you speak to your teacher, as he or she is best placed to advise you about your options. It may be possible for you to transfer to a different class if there are places available. However, no changes will be allowed after the registration period is closed.

Will I be notified if my child hasn't attended a lesson?
If your child has been absent without informing us, you will be notified by SMS.
Do I need to buy a course book for a particular course?
Most of our courses require a course book. If the course you are enrolled in needs a course book, our staff will provide you with a booklist upon registration.  You can buy the book at the Book Shop in our Admiralty centre.
Can I transfer to another class at a different timeslot for personal reasons?
If you find that you cannot attend the course you originally enrolled in, you may change to another class on the same level with a different timeslot if there are places available. You have to come personally, with the original course receipt, to the Customer Services Centre to organise the transfer. We advise you to call our Customer Services Centre to check the availability of classes before coming. However, no changes will be allowed after the registration period is closed.
Who are your teachers?
Our experienced teachers are all native speakers or have reached native speaking level and hold internationally recognised English language teaching qualifications. They reflect the diversity of contemporary multicultural society. They are friendly, approachable and always ready to help.
Which level should I, or my child, take?

All young learners need to show proof of their school class. Kindergarten, Primary 1 and 2 and Forms 6 and 7 students are placed in a class according to their school class. Primary 3 to 6 students, Forms 1 to 5 students and Adults will need to take a placement test for placement in an appropriate class.

If you want to make an appointment for a placement test, you can book and pay for online 14 days before your preferred day; for more details, please visit www.britishcouncil.org.hk/placement.

The placement test and counselling fee is HK$70 and is non-refundable.

How many terms do you have per year?

We have four terms per year in February, May, September and November. We also offer our Summer Programme from July to August.
However, not all courses are available every term. Please refer to our course brochure or our website for information on which courses available each term.

Are there any fundings schemes available for your courses?

Many of our courses have registered for Continuing Education Fund (CEF).

If you meet the minimum benchmark of the specific examination, you will receive 80% of the fees (subject to a maximum sum of HK$10,000) upon the successful completion of a reimbursable course(s) or module(s) forming part of the course.

Please visit the CEF official website or our website for full details.

Are there any extra learning resources you provide apart from the courses?
