The British Council has embarked on a five-year programme of strategic change, which we’re calling Strategy 2010, to equip the organisation for the cultural relations challenges of the early 21st century.
A major objective of Strategy 2010 is to increase the scale on which we operate. To do this, we are reorganising our international operations in 12 regions and developing a new range of products and services that will operate at the regional and global level.
Examples include:
Living Together – a British Council programme that brings together diverse groups from across South-East Europe and the UK to contribute to the global debate about how cultures communicate with one another. The programme concentrates on two areas where intercultural dialogue is vital: new migrant communities and established minority communities.
Power in the Voice – a three-year expressive initiative designed to celebrate the power of expression and help young people from southern Africa find their voices and express themselves through creative writing, music, the spoken word, rap, break dancing, graffiti art and more.
China-UK: Connections through Culture - a joint initiative of the Department for Culture Media and Sport, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the British Council with support from the Scottish Executive that aims to develop further cultural co-operation between the UK and China.
