The post-holder has responsibility for the provision of a full range of Facilities Management (FM) services across the UK estate (currently five offices) and setting and monitoring FM standards globally. Leading on the delivery of the FM strategies for the Council, investment projects and supporting change programmes whilst being accountable for the effective delivery of operational FM activity in the UK.
Global Estates provides a range of property services to the British Council's global operation and UK headquarters. Some of these are provided in-house and some are outsourced. The department is currently in the process of a significant reorganisation to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the services it provides. The whole of the British Council's Business Support Services are also currently under review with a view to improving efficiency, effectiveness and flexibility of the way they support the global operation. Both Head Global Estates and Head Facilities Management will be closely involved with this process.

Architecture and interior design: A small in-house team provides advice either directly or by procuring services externally |

Facilities management: Advice and support is provided on property and services management including the buying of facilities services and the management of suppliers. |

Project management: Advice and support is provided on the British Council's project process as a whole and project management generally, including: Project Brief; Planning and Control Procedures; Procurement of Professional Services; Project Cost Estimating; Procurement Strategy; Contractor Selection; Project Cost Management |

Real estate: Advice and support is provided on property acquisition, disposals, lease renewals, rent reviews and landlord/tenant matters. |
The department also manages and supports the UK Estate through the provision of in-house or outsourced services in areas including postal services; cleaning services; reception services; reprographics; maintenance; application of security and health and safety standards; environmental management (including recycling and energy management); space planning and moves and offsite storage. Global Estates provides a fast, reliable, secure and cost-effective International courier service between headquarters and overseas offices.
