Welcome to the British Council Greece's latest edition of Talking English - our bi-monthly newsletter for English language teachers.

Our aim is to help you keep up to date with global ELT news and local events organised by the British Council. Find links to useful websites and articles, online teaching resources, and details of events and training opportunities in Greece.

 The world's global languages – English and football
At Premier Skills, students can practise their English while they learn about the players, fans, clubs, and activities behind the scenes in the Barclays Premier League. Articles, video and listenings on the site have ideas for teachers attached, and there are competitions for your students to enter.
 LearnEnglish Parents craft downloads
The LearnEnglish Parents craft downloads page has lots of things for your learners to make and do to help their English. The resources help learners to make the most of the stories and songs on LearnEnglish Kids, develop their own ideas, and make up their own stories and songs. Get snipping…
 How new words are created
Scuba, igloo, ping pong. Do your learners know how new words are created in English? This downloadable lesson plan and worksheet helps learners to analyse words they already know and understand more about meaning from form. Explore!
 Transform - Books
On the TeachingEnglish site there are whole books for you to download and read! You can find David Graddol's reports on English, a Handbook on Equal Opportunity and Diversity for Teachers of English, papers on Global Citizenship, how to developing an Association for Language Teachers and much more – all for free!
 EVERYBODY WRITES
What about celebrating writing in your school? Everybody Writes offers innovative ideas and practical resources which you can adapt for your context. Check out 'Create personalised writing tasks' and 'Audit writing in your school' for handy tools, and the downloads for your own Everybody Writes Day.
 Type IPA phonetic symbols online
Do you need to include phonemic symbols in your documents? This free online International Phonetic Alphabet editor has been around since 2004. It's great for transcribing words for handouts and exercises, and there's a good explanation table with audio available, too.
