The Marathon for a United Europe is a three-day event (12–14 September 2008) which aims to bring together young people from all 27 European Union (EU) member states in the town of Marathon.
It is the largest European educational multicultural sporting event of the year for young people, and is organised by the Municipality of Marathon Development Enterprise, under the auspices of the EU and the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and sponsored by the EU.
Its aims are to:

The will take place on and is in a relay form of 3 x 10 km and 1 x 12.195 km for eight athletes aged 18–25 from each EU country, who will run the original classical route in reverse from the Panathinaiko Stadium (also known as the 'Kallimarmaro') in central Athens to the original Marathon Start in the town of Marathon.
