INTERNATIONAL YOUNG PEOPLE’S FORUM

WHAT DO YOUNG PEOPLE WANT FROM EUROPE?

What is the future of the Europe Union (EU)? How can European countries respond to the challenges of globalisation on issues related to employment and unemployment, social policies and the economy? What are the responsibilities of the European Union towards its citizens and what is Europe’s role in the world? How do young people react to these challenges and what messages are they sending to the leaders of our societies?

15 young people from EU Member States and candidate countries will meet in Thessaloniki for an open discussion with a young audience from the city on the pre-eminent challenges facing the EU. The discussion will be implemented by a panel of EU policy makers and opinion-formers drawn from EU institutions, Member States, the European media and academia, who will share their views on the present and future course of the EU and answer questions from the audience in the framework of a public discussion.

The conclusions of this forum will be fed into the findings of the European Commission’s Plan D for Democracy, Dialogue and Debate for Europe programme, resulting in a cross EU member-states feedback report on the expressed views, needs and expectations of European Union citizens towards the future of Europe.

It is, therefore, our pleasure to invite you to participate in this forum, which we are organising in collaboration with the British Embassy in Greece and the Hellenic Centre for European Studies (EKEM) (the official organiser of the European Commission’s Plan D debate in Greece), building on our efforts to keep young citizens informed, and to contribute to their active participation in decisions concerning the future of Europe.

If you are interested in actively participating in the decision making process for the future of Europe, take part in our online survey. This is your chance to make your voice heard! The survey will take no more than 10 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous.

The findings of this survey will be used as the basis for the public discussion What do young people want from Europe?
