DRAW THE WORLD TOGETHER AT COMICDOM CON

We are collaborating in Comicdom Con Athens, which is taking place for the first time this year. The convention aims to present the latest international trends in the world of comics, and to engage the wider Greek public with one of the most interesting aspects of global popular culture.

DRAW THE WORLD TOGETHER

Charity Sketching Session
Sunday 7 May 2006, 18:15–19:15

In collaboration with Comicdom Con Athens, we present the work of Draw the World Together, a British not-for-profit organisation created to unite arts communities in providing possibilities for children who live in communities where they do not have the opportunity for basic healthcare and education.

Draw the World Together's first project was to enrol comic book artists from around the world in the idea of donating a piece of artwork. These pieces of artwork were auctioned to raise money for the work being done in Cambodia by the international charity EveryChild.

Andrew Wildman, founder of Draw the World Together and special guest at Comicdom Con Athens, will talk about the organisation's work and share his experiences with participants.

His talk will be followed by a sketching session with Greek and foreign artists. Paricipants will be able to buy original sketches, and, in doing so, support the activities of Draw the World Together.

The Comic Book Script: From Concept to Publication

Saturday 6 May 2006, 17:30–18:30

So you have a fabulous idea that could be translated into a highly successful comic, which will have all major publishers begging you to publish it. Problem is, an idea is not enough. First you have to find the right way to present your concept to the right people and then, of course, you have to write the script itself.

Peter Milligan analyses the techniques of professional script-writing and gives the necessary advice for building the perfect pitch.

Adapt or Die – Career Choices and the People Who Make Them

Sunday 7 May 2006, 12:30–13:15

Sometimes, a creator must necessarily make some changes in his career, as a result of the general changes in the industry. What one really needs is to keep an open mind, stay determined and always be ready to adapt.

Andrew Wildman started in the comics industry, working first for Marvel UK and later on, for the American branch of the publisher. When the conditions at Marvel, and the industry in general, became extremely hard for most creators, he decided to make a career change and became a highly successful computer games designer. Now, having partly returned to comics, he analyses all stages of his career and gives valuable advice to aspiring comics professionals.
