LECTURE ON ECONOMICS: HA-JOON CHANG

Don't miss the lecture by Ha-Joon Chang, one of the leading heterodox economists and Reader in the Political Economy of Development in the Faculty of Economics at the University of Cambridge, which we are co-organising with the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron) and Kastaniotis Publications.

His book 23 Things They Don’t Tell You About Capitalism is an important contribution to the understanding of the functioning of a capitalist economy, abolishing parallel myths that distract us and hinder our opinion. Some of the ideas developed in the book that the author will comment on include:

The poorest countries are more innovative than the rich ones.
There is no free market.
The washing machine has changed our lives to a greater degree than the Internet.
Globalisation is not making the world richer.

No wonder the Financial Times described him as the "most effective critic of globalisation".

The author will share his views on the capitalist system and will discuss in detail the global and Greek economic crises.

The lecture will be in English and simultaneous interpretation into Greek.

George Kalpadakis, international relations specialist and Lecturer in the Department of Politics in the School of Law at the Democritus University of Thrace, will make the opening remarks.

When:   Tuesday 11 December 2012, 19.00
Where: Megaron Plus (Nikos Skalkotas Hall), Vas. Sofias Avenue & Kokkali Street, 115 21 Athens
