EVLIYA ÇELEBI: THE BOOK OF TRAVELS

Don't miss our exhibition Evliya Çelebi: The Book of Travels, part of our Our Shared Europe project.

Evliya Çelebi, a 17th century Turkish traveller was inspired by a dream to embark on a physical, intellectual and spiritual journey through Istanbul, Cairo, Vienna and London. All his adventures are captured in The Book of Travels.

Let’s follow in his footsteps and find out about the stories of constant conversations and exchanges between the Ottoman Empire and Europe, through trade in coffee, music, medicine, architecture, and stories of far off but not so distant lands.

Explore the exhibition and discover these travels – of both people and ideas across time and space – through the eyes of Evliya, Lady Mary Montagu, Jean de Thevenot and other adventurers.

Feed your own curiosity and find out all about the inescapable desire to travel and learn about the exchanges between Turks and Europe that have existed throughout history.

THESSALONIKI
After its success in Athens, our exhibition Evliya Çelebi: The Book of Travels is travelling to Thessaloniki and will include a series of wrap-around activities organised in collaboration with the Municipality of Thessaloniki.
