COMMUNICATING SCIENCE

WHY AND HOW TO TAKE SCIENCE DIRECTLY TO PEOPLE

As part of the Sunday Mornings programme οf events we are organising in collaboration with the National Research Foundation with the aim of making science more accessible to younger audiences, we invite you to a captivating presentation on Why and how to take science directly to people by science communicator, Frank Burnet.

Frank Burnet has worked as an actor and as a biochemist. In 2002 he became the first Professor of Science Communication in the UK and led the Science Communication Unit (formerly Graphic Science) at the University of the West of England, Bristol, from its foundation in 1997 until December 2008, when he launched the Frank Burnet Consultancy.

He founded and for five years co-directed the Cheltenham Science Festival. Passionate about finding new ways of taking science to the public, he was a member of the team that developed FameLab and has a continuing role in its international roll-out, which has to date taken it to ten European countries.

The event, which is aimed at university students, young scientists, teachers and journalists, will also feature a group of our Greek FameLab Competition finalists.

Admission is free and simultaneous interpretation will be provided.

When:   Sunday 30 May 2010, 11 a.m.
Where: National Hellenic Research Foundation,
48 V. Konstantinou Street, 116 35 Athens
