Soon the first tourists will be travelling to space! Until that becomes a reality, we're offering the next best alternative: your chance to join us on a trip through the history of space travel. Fasten your seat-belts and enjoy the ... performance! As a child Niki McCretton wanted to be an astronaut. Now, in the 21st century, she can help us all become space tourists. Driven by her lifelong passion, and following intensive research and with the contributions of an outstanding team of performers, filmmakers, musicians, writers and animators, Niki presents Space 50, a milestone production that promises to take us on a remarkable voyage celebrating 50 years of space travel. Devised and performed by Niki McCretton and Jamie Wood, Space 50 is physical in style with a strong narrative, and promises a magical flash-back journey through the most important highlights in the history of space travel from the first space mission in 1957 till today. Show length: 90 minutes. “Our human achievements in space over the past half-century should be marked by a celebration that reflects such innovation and exhilaration. Space 50 will, I’m sure, present audiences across the globe with a lasting experience that draws them into the joy of exploration and enables them, as space travel does, to reflect on their own humanity and the beauty of our unique planet.” Also, don’t miss Niki McCretton’s show Muttnik – The First Dog in Space, which tells the story of Laika, the dog sent into space aboard the Soviet rocket Sputnik 2 in 1957. A show for children and ... childish adults! (Saturday 29 & Sunday 30 March 2008.)
