Taking into consideration environmental, social and economic concerns, this project aims to be the first step in helping a densely populated Athenian community make lasting changes towards sustainability in their area.

Through multiple and integrated initiatives, this project aims to engage people in issues of climate change, to show how these are connected to the quality of their daily lives and how they can proactively respond to the mounting challenges of living in a concrete-laden city on a warming planet.

The main initiative is the installation of green roofs on a cluster of apartment blocks in an over-populated neighbourhood in central Athens. This will be embedded into a wider engagement strategy whose aim will be to bring people together, run creative and informative workshops on climate change and sustainable living, and publicise the challenges and successes of this initiative through short films and an interactive website.

In creating a space where people can interact and use their imagination to envision and work towards a healthier future, this initiative hopes to set an example for other neighbourhoods in Athens to follow. There is also the potential for this project to become a part of a growing network of communities who are doing similar work throughout Europe, so as to exchange experiences and expertise.
