GREEN ISLANDS

Green Islands: Environmental education ... goes on cruise!

The Green Islands project is an initiative of our Challenge Europe Climate Advocates, the British Council, Diadrasi and the Γόνιμη Άγονη Γραμμή festival, and aims to raise awareness of key environmental issues among the inhabitants of a number of Greek islands.

By using – among others – the example of the island Ai Stratis, considered a 'green' island, our Climate Advocates will travel to a number of Greek islands and inform both children and adults of ways to improve energy efficiency, of the impact climate change has on us and of the importance of adopting an environmentally friendly lifestyle.

How can we make compost? Why is solar energy important? What can we recycle? Through presentations, open discussions, film screenings and games, the Climate Advocates aim to make environmental education an interesting and fun experience!

The key objective of the Green Islands project is to provide knowledge that will lead to the adoption of appropriate solutions both individually and collectively on the Greek islands, which due to their specific characteristics present energy and water management problems.

The project includes the islands of Tinos (17–20 March 2011), Heraklia (26–28 March 2011) and Halki, (10–12 April) and will take place in selected schools.
