How to Register
Register for IELTS quickly and easily through our online registration service. Please follow the instructions below exactly to complete your registration successfully.

To register, follow these 6 simple steps:

Step 1
Download and read the Information for Candidates (PDF, 564 KB) and the Notice to Candidates (PDF, 112 KB).
Step 2

Check the IELTS test dates.

As there is a limited number of places for all sessions, we recommend that you register 5 weeks before your chosen test date but places may be available after this date. Check https://ielts.britishcouncil.org for live information on test place availability.

Step 3

Prepare two (2) recent identical passport size photographs and a photocopy of the ID document you have specified in your application (national identity card or passport).

Candidates registering after 1 January 2010 must NOT wear glasses in the photographs they submit for IELTS registration.

Download the guidelines (PDF, 36 KB)
Step 4

Register through our Online Registration Service.

On completion of your online registration (after clicking on the 'Continue' button), you will see your 'IELTS Application Summary' on the final screen, which displays all the registration details you have entered. Please print out and sign the summary and then click on the 'Apply Now' button to submit your application. The summary will also be sent to you by e-mail. You will need to send us the signed 'IELTS Application Summary' printout along with the other documents listed in Step 6.

Step 5

Pay the test fee in one of the following ways:

By direct deposit to the British Council account at Alpha Bank. You can do this at any Alpha Bank branch, via an ATM, or via web banking through your own bank. Please note that you will be responsible for any bank charges incurred.

A full list of Alpha Bank branches, including branches operating in the afternoon and ATMs, can be found at www.alpha.gr.

Account number: 1150 0200 2018 908
IBAN: GR05 0140 1150 1150 0200 2018 908

Please quote the name of the candidate and IELTS in the 'Αιτιολογία' field on the deposit slip (e.g. N. Papanikolaou, IELTS).

By bank cheque or personal cheque (please remember to quote your personal taxation number/ΑΦΜ) via any bank made payable to the British Council for the amount of the test fee.

We cannot accept cash sent by post, postal orders, payment of fees at our offices, registrations by phone or reservations not accompanied by full payment.

Step 6

Send the signed 'IELTS Application Summary' (see Step 4) along with your photographs, a photocopy of your ID and the bank deposit slip or cheque (whichever is applicable) to the British Council as follows:

You can submit your documents by ACS Courier free of charge. We have made special arrangements so that you can contact your local ACS branch, tell them you'd like to send a dispatch to the British Council, specifying either Athens or Thessaloniki, and then agree collection arrangements. We will cover the courier costs.

  • Call ACS to arrange for the pick-up of your documents at your convenience:

    Athens main office: 210 8190000
    Thessaloniki main office: 2310 281010

A full list of ACS branches can be found at www.acscourier.gr.
  • Inform the courier agent who collects your documents that the British Council will pay the courier fee.

ACS is the only courier company offering this special service to British Council customers. You may choose any other courier provider but, in this case, the courier fee will not be covered by the British Council.

Candidates wishing to sit the test in Macedonia, Thrace and Thessaly should send the above documents to our Thessaloniki office (see below for contact details).

Candidates wishing to sit the test in Athens and all other provinces (including the islands) should send the above documents to our Athens office (see below for contact details).
