CITY DEBATES

How can cities be redesigned to be self-sufficient and sustainable? How can urban design influence our way of life to make it more harmonious with nature? How can design contribute to urban renewal and evolution? How do cities reflect cultures?

We invite you to explore these challenging issues in our City Debates series of discussions.

Design for Living
In collaboration with Megaron Plus, we present Pascal Anson and Michael Cross, two of the designers included in our Great Brits – The New Alchemists exhibition, in conversation with Stergios Delialis, Director, Thessaloniki Design Museum.

Architecture in the Arts
In collaboration with locus athens, we present Katherine Clarke and Liza Fior of Muf, a London-based collaborative practice of arts and architecture, in conversation with the architect Andreas Angelidakis, and Elena Zabeli and Carlos Loperena of Athens-based Deca Architecture. Memos Filippidis will facilitate.

Olympic Cities
Alejandro Zaera Polo of Foreign Office Architects, involved in the masterplanning for London 2012, and Zisis Kotionis, Associate Professor, Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly, will discuss the architectural impact of the Olympic Games on Athens and London.

Hybrid City
An international collaboration between students from Athens, Belgrade, Glasgow and Istanbul where the students exchanged views of their own city, created an urban narrative of the other cities and merged them into a Hybrid City – an interactive cityscape of the four participating cities. Concept designer Jonathan Charley together with the Athens participants will present their project.

Urban Regeneration
David Barrie, a design, regeneration and media project director, who led the Castleford Project, and Crispin Kelly of Baylight Properties, who specialises in high quality urban developments and regeneration projects, in conversation with Eleni Portaliou, Associate Professor, School of Architecture, National Technical University of Athens.
