METAMORPHOSIS: BRITISH ART OF THE SIXTIES

This exhibition celebrates the diversity and exuberance of British art in the 1960s, a decade which has continued to fascinate and influence future generations of artists.

Incorporating painting, sculpture, works on paper and prints, drawn from the rich reserves of British art in the collections of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, and the British Council, London, the exhibition includes work by artists who came to prominence during the period and who, in many instances, went on to become major players on the international stage.

The exhibition has borrowed its title Metamorphosis from an early painting by Bridget Riley from 1964 (included in the show); a title which denotes the transformation British art underwent during this period of great optimism and opportunity.

The exhibition includes works by Peter Blake, Anthony Caro, Richard Hamilton, David Hockney, Howard Hodgkin, John Hoyland, Eduardo Paolozzi, Bridget Riley and others. Find out more ...
