THE NOVEL AND THE URBAN LANDSCAPE IN AN AGE OF CRISIS AND TRANSITION

As part of the Megaron Plus programme, in collaboration with the Athens Megaron, we are proud to present a unique literary encounter and panel discussion on the novel and the urban landscape in an age of crisis and transition.

Financial Times arts correspondent, Peter Aspden and writers Alex Preston, James Miller, Amanda Michalopoulou, Nikos Panayotopoulos and Kallia Papadaki will take part in a panel discussion and exchange views on the contemporary novel and the portrayal of the urban landscape – the metropolitan landscape in particular – at the start of the 21st century, under the shadow of the recent turmoil cities such as Athens and London have experienced.

More specifically, and within the context of the title of the event, our participating panellists will be invited to comment on:

the current state of urban networks in their cities and/or internationally in the context of the international crisis and state of uncertainty
the political and social issues arising from the above and how these are addressed in the novel and in fiction in general
how their own work addresses issues of this nature.

Following a brief address by each speaker, the event will take the form of a panel discussion, moderated by journalist and writer Elias Maglinis, and will close with a brief question-and-answer session.

The event will be held in English with simultaneous translation into Greek.

Admission is free with admission tickets. Distribution of tickets will begin at 5.30 p.m.
