Strange Screen V – Audiovisual Festival of Experimental Video and Creative Documentary Experimental cinema has run in parallel with the history of the movie industry and has offered a great deal to cinematographic art. However, what appeals to us most about it is the fact that it constitutes a space for free experimental audiovisual expression beyond any conventional rules, open to all those creative and 'daring' contemporary film makers and audiovisual artists. Totally in line with the above statement, we are partnering the Strange Screen Audiovisual Festival in an attempt to highlight and approach the alternative contemporary audiovisual scene. In this framework, the British filmmaker and Associate Dean of Research and Enterprise at Duncan Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee, Professor Stephen Partridge, is visiting Thessaloniki to present the REWIND Project – Artists Video in the ‘70s & ‘80s. REWIND, a research project undertaken by Dundee University and supported by the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC), provides a research resource that addresses the gap in historical knowledge of the evolution of electronic media arts in the UK, by investigating specifically the first two decades of artists’ works in video. There is a danger that many of these works may disappear because of their ephemeral nature and poor technical condition. The project will conserve and preserve them, and enable further scholarly activity. Additionally, well-known British video artist and Professor at the Arts School of Surrey University, Steve Littman, will present his most recent work as well as the art works by British video-artist and critical writer of experimental cinema, Jackie Hatfield.
