QUIZOOLA! BY FORCED ENTERTAINMENT

Don't miss Forced Entertainment, described by The Guardian newspaper as 'Britain’s most brilliant experimental theatre company', on their first visit to Greece to present one of the most innovative performances in the field of performance art.

Forced Entertainment is a group of six artists based in Sheffield, UK. They stage theatre performances as well as projects in other media and contexts. Their work varies from projects that are very brash and theatrical to other works that are very minimal and text-based. In everything they do, they try to find ways to talk about contemporary experience, and to create exciting and intimate encounters with audiences. Since 1984 they have presented their work widely in the UK, all over mainland Europe and around the world.

QUIZOOLA!
Quizoola! is a durational performance based on a text of 2,000 questions by Tim Etchells. The piece lasts six hours and – as in other durational works by the company – the public are free to arrive, depart and return at any point.

Performed by a team of three actors in smeared clown make-up, Quizoola! is about the need for knowledge, certainty and definition through language. The players/performers take turns choosing questions from the text and making up answers on stage, lending the piece a live energy. The shape and content of each Quizoola! performance hangs in the balance, negotiated live between players and the public. As new questions are chosen and new answers made up, the mood shifts from low comedy to personal scrutiny to harsh interrogation and intellectual hair-splitting.

Τhe performance is in English.

PARALLEL EVENT: VIDEO WORKS BY TIM ETCHELLS
A programme of short video works by Tim Etchells, artistic director of Forced Entertainment, including collaborations with the company’s long-term photographer Hugo Glendinning and composer John Avery.

From the hilarious anti-Hollywood Starfucker to the poignant and confessional Down Time, Tim Etchells’s video works explore the connections between image, language and imagination and ask the viewer to re-think their relationship to the unfolding narratives on screen. Refreshingly simple and revealing in equal amounts, the works bring the aesthetic of Forced Entertainment‘s live work into a new arena and exploit the capacity of video to both capture and create unrepeatable and enigmatic events.
