| The Selector is the international radio showcase for the best new music from the UK. The weekly two-hour programme covers all styles of contemporary music – you’ll hear indie, grime, dubstep, folk, soul, electro and everything else in between. Each show also features artist interviews and exclusive studio sessions from some of the most exciting artists in the UK.
Started by the British Council in 2001, The Selector reflects the richness and diversity of British music today. We aim to expose an international audience to new sounds and talents from the UK, and not just the same tunes that can be heard on an average pop/chart show.
Somethin' Else, the UK's leading independent radio production company, has been commissioned by the British Council to produce The Selector show for syndication to radio stations around the world. The show is presented by Goldierocks and we currently broadcast in around 13 countries to an audience of over 1 million every week.
Over time The Selector has developed a strong identity within the British music industry and in the countries across the world where it is broadcast. In 2005 it won the gold award at the prestigious Sony Radio Academy Awards for the best specialist weekly music programme.
The Selector has played the tunes of everyone who is anyone in UK music over the last decade. We have had some amazing live sessions and great interviews with artists from across the musical spectrum, including Goldfrapp, Elbow, Estelle, Nitin Sawhney, Blur, Jazzie B and Wiley amongst many others.
