Julian Barnes has been described as ‘one of the most distinguished and refined intellectuals on the contemporary British literature scene’. He has written eleven novels, two books of short stories and two collections of essays. His work deals mainly with themes of history, reality, truth and love. As Dan Kavanagh, Barnes has written four crime novels. He’s the winner of various awards, including three nominations for the Man Booker Prize: Flaubert’s Parrot (1984), England, England (1998), and Arthur and George (2005).
