LITERARY TRANSLATION AWARD 2008

The European Center for the Translation of Literature and the Human Sciences (EKEMEL), and the European Cultural Institutes - British Council, Goethe Institut, Institut Francais d'Athenes, Instituto Cervantes de Atenas, Instituto Italiano di Cultura di Atene - will be presenting the Literary Translation Award 2008 to the translators of the five best translations into Greek of British, German, French, Spanish and Italian literature at 8 p.m. on Tuesday 30 September 2008 at a ceremony that will take place at the Italian Institute of Athens (47 Patission Avenue).

The shortlisted translators for the best literary translation from English to Greek are:

Alexis Kalofolias for his translation of the novel The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai (Minoas Publications)
Tina Theou for her translation of the novel Londonstani by Gautam Malkani (Ellinika Grammata)
Serafeim Velentzas for his translation of the play 13 Objects by Howard Barker (Ipsilon Publications)

AND THE WINNER IS ...
The winner of the Literary translation Award 2008 for a translation from English to Greek is Serafeim Velentzas.

The award is accompanied by the sum of €3,000 and one month's accomodation at the House of Literature in Lefkes, Paros.

Eligible entries were Greek translations of novels, short stories, poems and plays. The translation must have been published in Greece in 2007.
