We are delighted to join forces with the British Embassy in Greece, ECOWEEK 2011 and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival in organising a documentary film screening and discussion on how contemporary environmental concerns apply to major architectural works such as the London 2012 Olympic Park. The documentary Going for Green – Britain's 2012 Dream was commissioned by the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Olympic Delivery Authority, and tells the story of how the Olympic Park is being built in an environmentally sustainable way, in accordance with the legacy objectives as set out in the original London 2012 bid. The film highlights British creativity and excellence in construction, as well as the cutting edge 'green' technology used for the build of the Olympic Park. The Parklands, Soil Cleaning, the Aquatics Centre and the Velodrome are some of the Olympic projects presented in the film. Following the screening we will hold a public discussion led by acclaimed UK environmental engineer Brian Mark at Mott Macdonald Fulcrum Consulting. Brian Mark is the Director of Mott Macdonald Fulcrum and an expert in the engineering of sustainable cities. He is a member of the UK Government Renewables Advisory Board, lead contributor to the CABE (Commission for Architecture and Built Environment) Sustainable Cities Web based resource tool, a CABE specialist Olympics enabler and Eco-towns design panel member. Brian Mark was a founding partner of Fulcrum, founder members of the UK Green Building Council and engineering designers of the lowest energy UK university building plus approximately 100,000 zero carbon homes. A year ago Fulcrum joined the Mott Macdonald group, international engineering design consultants for Masdar, the worlds first zero carbon city. The film will be screened in English with Greek subtitles and admission is free. To book a place, please e-mail Chrysoula Melidou at Chrysoula.Melidou@britishcouncil.gr The event is being held as part of the International Conference and Workshops ECOWEEK 2011: Urban Communities and Green Architecture which is aimed at architects and designers and is taking place in Thessaloniki from 28 March to 3 April 2011.
