INSIDE OUT – EXPLORING ARTS FOR SOCIAL INCLUSION Organised by the British Council in collaboration with the Hellenic Migration Policy Institute and the Arts Centre at ACS, Inside Out – Exploring arts for social inclusion is a creative and inspirational two-day event focusing on how the arts can be successfully integrated into education and social development programmes involving refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and ethnic minority communities. With a particular emphasis on working with children and young people, the event will bring together a range of experts who will provide a creative insight into educational policies and inclusion strategies. The programme includes participatory creative workshops, presentations and discussions, youth-led activities, performances and an informal space for networking, exchanging project information and reflection on best practice. Throughout the two days participants will have the opportunity to explore and use various art forms including photography, dance, drama, visual arts, music, film, creative writing, as well as contributing to key questions around the issues of education and the role of the arts in the integration process:
Confirmed speakers and workshop leaders include: Inside Out reflects the dual complexities of the internal and external, physical and emotional experiences of those living in exile or seeking safety and refuge in a new land. Inside Out seeks out the meeting ground between arts and social policy. It links policy and practice, theory and experience, the personal and public, and brings together artists, educators, youth workers, NGO workers, health workers, social researchers, academics, museum professionals, arts and social policy makers. Participation in the workshop is free.
Deadline for applications: Friday 3 March 2006
