Savita Datta, M.Sc. Physics from Hindu College and Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Delhi. In 1983, she joined the Physics Department of Maitreyi College as Founder Member and was appointed Principal, Deshbandhu College in 2003.
She joined as Principal, Maitreyi College in 2004 and took additional charge as Director, Campus of Open Learning, University of Delhi in 2006. She is also a visiting faculty at Institute of Informatics and Communication, University of Delhi South Campus since 1998. She has several papers/publications to her credit and is supervising Ph.D. students.
She has been involved with open learning as a Counselor/Coordinator for IGNOU and has prepared study material as well under 'NVS Project' for postgraduate science teachers. She has been conducting training workshops to familiarize University teachers with content creation for e-learning and has been a resource person at several faculty training programs.
She led a delegation of University of Delhi to Open University, UK to initiate Blended-Learning Project under the UKIERI Program which she is supervising as Director. The project is focused on developing e-content for an English course (for improving English of students from the School of Open Learning), lab manual for science laboratories and assignments for undergraduate science and commerce students by inducting the concept of supported blended learning. At present, she is engaged in developing professional and technical courses with inputs from Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to help University produce employable graduates. Under the University-Industry Partnership, the DU-CII Project has initiated courses on Retail Management, Auto Sales and Services and Software Development. She is a member of ‘National Committee on Education’ of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).
