Partnered schools can then apply for funding for collaborative curriculum based projects, language courses for students and professional development for teachers.
Partnerships cannot be funded by DFID Global School Partnerships and World Links and Partnerships at the same time.

International Placements for Headteachers is an initiative developed in partnership between the British Council and the National College for School Leadership. The programme is funded by the National College for School Leadership.
Headteachers can apply to go on a pre-arranged group study visit based around a particular theme. Whilst on the study visit, headteachers will have the opportunity to 'shadow' a host headteacher and to engage in professional dialogue about their experiences.
It is not possible for teachers to request a specific destination or host school for the visit.
The UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) supports partnerships between clusters of schools in India and the UK which involve collaborative projects for pupils and professional development for teachers and head teachers. The Teachers’ International Professional Development (TIPD) programme, funded by the Department for Education and Skills, is to allow classroom teachers to visit schools in other countries to experience good practice, to carry out research and to share information with a network of other participants.
TIPD Study visits to developing countries give groups of teachers and Local Authority officers opportunity to examine a chosen topic. Teams of teachers and a Local Authority officer review their own practice and identify shared objectives for the visit. Teachers gain professional motivation and experience, and schools gain a new network of contacts within the Local Authority and overseas. Visits are pre-arranged relating to a particular theme and groups cannot choose their destination.
The TIPD school-determined visits programme is aimed at schools that already have an existing partnership with a school in another country and wish to develop the partnership further through a study visit.
The League for the Exchange of Commonwealth Teachers connects teachers and educators with the aim of improving teacher skills and educational achievement of children and young people throughout the Commonwealth.
LECT arranges International Study Visits and Group Commonwealth Study Visits around a particular theme in education. Teachers are invited to join a group travelling together, visiting schools and meeting teachers and educational officers from the host country.
LECT does not provide funding to visit a particular partner school but a study visit can be a great way to learn more about global dimension themes and to meet potential partner schools.
Commonwealth Youth Exchange Council (CYEC) gives young people the opportunity to get involved in exchanges with countries throughout the commonwealth. Every exchange has its own theme and activities; themes range from sustainable development, young people's health issues, citizenship, through to arts and culture.
