This month’s cubed takes a look at an exciting new technique that mimics processes found in nature in order to develop self-repairing aeroplanes. Aerospace engineers at the University of Bristol have developed the new technique, which uses fibre-reinforced polymer material that acts like blood and ‘heals’ structures. The team hopes the new technique will repair minor damage to aircraft, enabling them to continue until they can be repaired properly.

Here at cubed we keep you up to date with the science that’s shaping our society and bringing a new dimension to everyday life.
