Using online databases for your research

As a member of the Learning Centre (LC), you get access to these electronic subscriptions which will be helpful if you need to read online news sites or carry out web-based research for your qualifications.

You will be able to get full access to these sites (listed below) if you are browsing inside the LC. However, if you are a Management Express member, you will be given a password which will grant you access to these resources in the comfort of your home, office or any computer with internet access.

Register with us in Accra or Kumasi to make full use of these resources.

Emerald databases
Emerald Fulltext contains about 100 full text journals mainly in management and information sciences. Emerald Management Reviews has abstracts from around 400 of the top international journals. The resources are suited to the needs of academics, trainers and practising managers. View site

Ashridge virtual learning resource
A digital source of over 52 learning guides on management topics such as facilitation skills and evaluated weblinks in subject order. Used by Ashridge to supplement their management programmes. View site.

Thompson Gale databases
This dataset has nearly 500 fulltext journals like The Economist, British Management Journal, and African Business. It contains all the e-journals held by the Chartered Management Institute and Ashridge. You have access to around 50 UK and international newspapers e.g. The Financial Times, Guardian, International Herald Tribune and the New York Times. View site.

Oxford English Dictionary
An authoritative and comprehensive dictionary of the English language. You can find out both the meaning and usage of English words - both past and present. View site.

Oxford Reference Online
Quickly find an answer to a multitude of questions with OUP. It brings together 100 well-known and trusted dictionaries and reference books, plus an Encyclopaedia, into a single cross-searchable web database. You may access a comprehensive and growing collection of acclaimed reference titles and explore words and ideas from a variety of different perspectives at once. View site.

This is one of the world's most trusted sources of information on every topic imaginable. You can obtain information on almost anything from the origins of the universe to current events and everything in between. View site.

An online reference library that provides you with access to a selection of reference books.including encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauri and books of quotations. It also has a range of subject-specific titles covering everything from art to accountancy and literature to law. View site.
