IVANE JAVAKHISHVILI TBILISI STATE UNIVERSITY

Founded at the beginning of the 20th century, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) is the first Georgian University and the first higher education institution in the South Caucasus. Considered as a “white temple of science and education” TSU has always played a crucial role in the life of Georgian society. TSU has a momentous mission to support development of a democratic society and foster affable relations with the international community via its students’ output.

The next day of the university foundation was marked by the establishment of the library which today represents an important information and education centre involving faculty type libraries compiled with professional books in respective field buildings

There are 6 enlarged academic units at TSU. The current faculties are:

•Faculty of Economics and Business

•Faculty of Humanities

•Faculty of Law

•Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences

•Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Faculty of Medicine

So far TSU conducts 115 academic programmes:

•Undergraduate programme- 44

•Graduate programme -49  

•PhD programmes- 22  

There are 873 permanent and 899 invited academic staff at TSU.

British Council library at TSU will serve as a cultural and information centre for students, academics, young professionals and all people interested in British culture and education. The centre will host various events like library weeks, trainings, presentations, professional meetings, readers’ conferences, and/or any events initiated by the British Council.

Maintenance, sustainability and development will be one of key determinants of the BC library at TSU.

Various professional needs will be taken into account while subscribing to new books and library materials thus satisfying all professional groups (law, political science, economics, ELT and media), the goal being to reflect the requirements of young and promising professionals to ensure the sustainability of their professional development.
