Providing a space for dialogue and an exchange of views around the theme of cultural identity is the core element of our project called 'Conversations'.
As part of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, the British Council, Respect Mag and the CNHI organise a debate on 'Open Cities, Open Minds: diversity and living together in cities of the future'.
Please visit the CNHI for further information on conversations.
Please read below summary information about the last two events that took place in France. For information about the 'Conversations' events in other countries please follow the links on the left hand side of the page.
The UK and France have adopted two different approaches to deal with the integration of ethnic minorities - "multiculturalism" for the UK and "integration" for France. In spite of these two different approaches, both countries face similar problems.
To provide a forum for discussion the British Council brought together 60 experts in this field. The debate was led by Trevor Phillips (Chair of the Commission for Equality and Human Rights) and Harlem Désir (Député européen et secrétaire national du PS à la mondialisation) and moderated by Alex Taylor (Journalist)
