In the United States, IELTS has achieved a dramatic increase in recognition as a viable alternative to the TOEFL test with over 3000 institutions and programs including all of the IVY League. - Academic: if you intend to study at undergraduate or postgraduate degree level

British Council administers tests twice a month in Paris, and once a month in Bordeaux, Lyon, Lille Nantes and Toulouse, with other centres planned across France. To know more about upcoming sessions, consult the IELTS dates and venues.
All registration is centralised in British Council Paris. You need to register online on our website, and then to send all necessary documentation to us. The IELTS test costs €185.00. (The correct price will be displayed automatically when you register online.) Please note that the test costs will be of €190.00 from the 1st April 2012. The written part of the test takes place in the morning and the oral part in the afternoon. To know more about what will happen on the day and find more practical information, consult the IELTS test day.
Results are released just 13 days after the written test date. You will receive your own copy and we can send further copies on your behalf to universities and professional bodies you have applied to if you made this request at registration. IELTS tests all 4 language skills (listening, reading, writing, speaking) using a pen and paper test format. The speaking section is a face-to-face interview. See the IELTS Information for Candidates brochure for more details.
There are a range of options to prepare for IELTS including self study materials and face-to-face British Council preparation courses.
