Prepare your child for a better future

WHY TAKE CAMBRIDGE YOUNG LEARNERS ENGLISH EXAMS (YLE)?

to ensure simple, relevant and meaningful language use
to measure accurately and fairly
to present a positive first impression of international exams
to promote effective learning and teaching
to encourage future learning and teaching


HOW OLD SHOULD THE CHILDREN BE?

They should be at least seven years old. Children can take starters at twelve or flyers at seven, depending on how much English they know. Children aged thirteen, who are in the same class as twelve years old at school, may also take these exams.

Cambridge Starters exam: Children who have studied English for 100 hours.
Cambridge Movers exam: Children who have studied English for 175 hours.
Cambridge Flyers exam: Children who have studied English for 250 hours.


WHICH SKILLS DO THESE EXAMS COVER?

Listening: between 40 and 60 minutes (depends on the level of the test)
Reading and Writing: between 40 and 60 minutes
Speaking: from 5 to 10 minutes


WHAT DO YOUR CHILDREN RECEIVE?

An award showing a grade between one and five for each different skill area assessed.


DATES AND LOCATIONS:

In your school
We arrange exams to take place at certain dates during the year but you need to register at the beginning of the school year or at least 3 months in advance. Your children are examined in their own schools. For further information, please contact us by e-mail at exams@britishcouncil.fr.

At the British Council
