English Courses for adults
Learn English with the British Council in Paris

The British Council Teaching Centre in Paris offers English language courses for adults. Courses run from September to June from Monday to Saturday and you can choose from a selection of days and times according to your level and your needs.

We offer General English, Business English, conversation courses and Cambridge and IELTS Preparation courses.

COURSE LEVELS, TIMETABLES AND FEES

You will know your level once you have taken the British Council Placement Test. An English course will be recommended to you. Please  download the timetable for adult English coursespdf icon

Annual Courses

These courses take place from September to June according to the French school calendar of the Académie de Paris.

General English

We offer General English courses at all levels from Elementary (A1) to Advanced (C1). Each course covers the four main skills: reading, writing, listening comprehension and speaking, at the appropriate level.  Emphasis is also placed on helping you to develop your vocabulary and pronunciation, and to learn the appropriate skills and strategies needed to become a more effective learner.

A minimum of 120 hours is usually required to move from one level to the next

Exam Preparation

We offer Cambridge exam preparation courses at Upper-intermediate (B2) level for the First Certificate Examination, at Advanced (C1) level for the Cambridge Advanced Examination, and at Proficiency (C2) level for the Cambridge Proficiency Examination. These courses consolidate and develop all aspects of the English language, and help you prepare effectively for the exam using authentic exam papers.

Business English

We offer Business English courses at Intermediate (B1), Upper-intermediate (B2) and Advanced (C1) level. The courses provide training in key business communication skills.  Although these courses are not exam preparation courses, the material covers the grammar and vocabulary tested by the Business English Certificate (BEC) exam.

The course fee does not include the exam registration.

Conversational English

We offer English for spoken communication for students at Intermediate (B1) to Advanced (C2) levels who want to develop their fluency and understanding of spoken English. This course will provide practice in speaking and listening as well as improving pronunciation and confidence in speaking.  The course also includes work on vocabulary as well as communication strategies to improve students’ ability to interact in conversations and discussions in English.  The Advanced level (C2) class will focus on current affairs and literature in order to stimulate discusssion.

Semester Courses

IELTS 45 hour preparation course

We offer this course each semester, starting in September or January, to students at Upper Intermediate (B2) level and above to prepare for the academic module of the IELTS exam. This course develops both language skills and exam techniques for the IELTS exam and helps you prepare effectively for the exam by using authentic exam papers.

The course fee does not include the exam registration.

Intensive Courses

IELTS  16 hour Preparation Course

We are now offering a IELTS 16 hour preparation course. The course will focus on the academic module and give you feedback on your writing and speaking and help you to get the IELTS score you deserve.

HOW CAN I ENROL FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2009-2010?

Registrations for the academic year 2009/2010 are now closed and there will be no further placement testing for this year.
