School Year 2011-2012

Children and adolescents
From what age can I register my child ?

We take children from Grande Section de Maternelle (who are 5 years old) up to the last year of school (Terminale). After leaving school students should register in the adult section.

How often are classes held ?
The  English language classes, which are organised by school class and level of English, take place once a week (2 or 3 hours each time).
What are the days and times of classes ?
The day and time of classes will depend on the pupil’s school class and level of English, but also on which classes have free places. For more detailed information please refer to our programme of courses on  oun main web pages.
How many pupils are there in a class?

Classes can have between 10 to 18 pupils depending on their age and level, and also depending on the size of the available classrooms.

How much do classes cost?

The price is for a full academic year (30 classes a year) and depends on the number of class hours:

60 hours of class: 960€
90 hours of class: 1430€

This fee can be paid in a single payment or in two instalments

If you choose two instalments, you are requested to pay as follows:

60 hours of classes: 680€ on registering and 280€ in February
90 hours of classe: 980€ on registering and 450€ in February
How can I register my child? Do I have to make an appointment in order to register?

If your child is a beginner (no English at all) and in primary

If your child will still be in primary school (Grande section maternelle up to CM2) in September 2011 and has no knowledge of English, you do not need a placement test. You can enrol your child by coming directly to the British Council on Saturday 25 June 9h00 - 12h00, then on Tuesday to Friday from 9h30 to 17h00 between 28 June and 15 July 2011, depending on the availability of places.

If your child is not a beginner:
All pupils who have had some English lessons or who have learnt the basics of English (plus all pupils who will be in secondary school in September 2011) have to take a test. You can book a placement test direclty on our Young Learners pages.

After the test the teacher will give your child a level, and advice on choosing a class. You can then register your child (please remember to bring a cheque for the fee payment). Given that places are limited, we strongly advise you to register your child immediately after the placement test.

Please note that registrations take place in order of arrival following the level test depending on places available. Due to the success of our courses and the growing number of re-enrolments, we are not able to guarantee a place in a course.

If your child is attending our weekly classes during the 2010/2011 academic year:
All our registered pupils will receive by post our programme of classes for the school year 2011/2012, their recommended level and a re-registration form. Please note that re-registration of pupils for the following year in not automatic. If parents wish to re-register their child, they must return the completed registration form and the recommended document with a cheque corresponding to the cost of the chosen course, either by post or directly at the reception desk on the 4th floor.

Please note that a placement test does not guarantee that a place will be available in a course.

Can I leave the fee at the reception on the ground floor?

No, all payments must be made on the 4th floor during the Teaching Centre opening hours.

The reception staff on the ground floor cannot take registrations.

Do pupils already following weekly courses during the 2010/2011 school year have priority in terms of registering for the next year?

Pupils already following school year courses will be given priority according to places available. Please note that re-registration of pupils for the following year in not automatic.

In order to reduce waiting time, parents coming to register are requested to bring the registration form, completed and signed, a cheque for the fee, and a copy of the recommended level document.

Can I make a advance registration or a reservation before the test ?

No, we do not make advance registrations or reservations before the test. Pupils are registered after the test according to the order of arrival and places available.

What does the test consist of?

5/6 year olds : oral test (10 minutes)

Primary and bilingual pupils (6–10 year olds): written test + oral (about 30 minutes altogether)

Secondary pupils : written test + oral (about 2h)

Duration of Test + registration = Between 2h and 2h30

Can I choose my child’s teacher? Will my child keep the same teacher from one year to the next?

No. Our education team decides the allocation of classes to teachers. We cannot guarantee that your child will keep the same teacher from one year to the next.

When will you have the names of the teachers for each class?

The names of the teachers are confirmed on the first day of classes.

When can I buy the books for my child’s lessons?

English as a Foreign Language Section (non-bilingual pupils):
The bookshop Attica will organise a sale of course books at the British Council in September 2011. We will inform you of the exact dates at registration.

Bilingual section :
Information on the course books for bilingual students will be given at registration.

My child is already registered, and I wish to change the day and/or time of the class. What should I do?

We remind parents that an enrolment is a commitment for the whole academic year. No reimbursement will be made in the case of cancellation by the parents, or for classes missed by the pupil.

If you chose to pay in 2 instalments, the second payment is still due in case of cancellation.

My child is in secondary school (6ème to Terminale) and I wish to let the Teaching Centre know that he/she will be absent or late? How can I receive my child’s homework?
