The British Council supports cultural relations between the UK and France, promoting the exchange of knowledge and ideas and the development of professional relationships
The Director of British Council France is Chris Hickey (see photo on the left).
Chris Hickey has been the British Council’s country director in France since September 2009. He has wide experience of the British Council’s work in Western Europe, having previously worked as director in Spain (2003-2009) and Greece (2000-2003). Previous to that, Chris Hickey was based in London, as the director of the global English teaching and exams operation (1996-2000). His early career in the British Council was in the field of English language teaching, and this included managing a regional education aid programme in Cote d’Ivoire and Francophone West Africa (1986-90) as well as teacher training in Morocco (1980-1983). His first degree was in French and Spanish (1974), and he has postgraduate qualifications in French literature, English language teaching and business management. Chris Hickey was appointed CMG (in the Order of Saint Michael and St George) in 2008.
